2017-2018 Annual Report to AALL
SANDALL completed its 20th anniversary this year and held 7 events. The 2018 Joint Institute with AZALL was held in Phoenix, Arizona. The Institute, entitled "Digital Dilemmas," was attended by library professionals from Southern California and Arizona. The program was well received and generated revenue for both chapters. The Institute included a visit from AALL President Greg Lambert. The annual holiday party was held at Fig Tree Cafe at Liberty Station. Another notable event in the past year was a panel discussion entitled "The History of SANDALL," featuring four founding members of SANDALL who discussed the formation of SANDALL and how the chapter has changed over time.
The Archives Committee worked on electronic access to SANDALL documents. The committee is digitizing back issues of the SANDALL newsletter, along with press releases, workshop materials, photographs, flyers, reports, election materials, financial and legal documents and meeting minutes.
SANDALL CONNECT held monthly breakfast networking meetings for members and students. The Employment Committee researched and compiled legal and non-legal library and information science employment opportunities, publishing a weekly job list on the SANDALL listserv. This past year, the Employment Committee advertised over 1,000 unique job opportunities.
The Past President served as advisor and participated in Board meetings and decisions, worked on the Joint Institute and Public Relations Committee, and worked on creating a space in Google Drive for SANDALL Board and Committee documents.
The Government Relations Committee performed advocacy work with SCALL and NOCALL. The three chapters held regular teleconferences throughout the year to monitor relevant legislation. The Committee was involved in advocacy for the passage of H.R. 5305 (FDLP Modernization Act of 2018), and for permanent funding for California county law libraries.
SANDALL awarded one grant for travel to SLA 2018 in Baltimore, to a member who presented a program. The Public Relations Committee completed a Social Media Plan that was designed to increase likes and subscriptions to SANDALL's social media channels this year.
The Membership Committee continued to work on identifying potential new SANDALL members. The Committee sent welcome messages to new members with information about upcoming events and the SANDALL listserv.
