2014-2015 Annual Report to AALL
SANDALL completed its 17th year in July of 2015. During the year, we had a total of 10 member events, including a Winter Institute. Our 2015 Winter Institute, entitled “Authenticating Electronic Legal Materials: UELMA & Beyond” was made possible by a grant from the AALL/Bloomberg BNA Continuing Education Grant Program. The institute included a visit from Holly Riccio, AALL President, who participated and presented. SANDALL began planning for this full-day event about a year in advance. Our 2015 Institute was a very successful conference. We were able to attract conference speakers and attendees from across the country, providing a fun and informative day of programming. SANDALL received AALL’s 2015 Chapter Professional Development Award for the work of its 2015 Winter Institute.
Our tours to the USS Midway Museum Library in October 2014 and to the Balboa Museum of Art in April 2015 were two of our well-attended member activities. We also began a series of networking social events with our local Special Library Association of San Diego. We met at various restaurants around San Diego once a month to share current news and insights. Our community service chair organized a fall community clean-up activity and spring community involvement activity at the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program’s Annual Women’s Resource Fair.
SANDALL continued its Buddies mentorship program with monthly breakfast meetings for both members and library students to gather, answer questions and discuss hot topics. We shared in the spirit of the holiday season for our annual December holiday party. Our holiday party was held at the Karl Strauss Brewery in North County, San Diego. Our annual Spring Social was hosted in May by prior president and longtime member, Brent Bernau. A fund raising raffle for SANDALL was held at this event. In addition to our events and networking opportunities, we continue to provide members with a highly sought weekly email of current job listings both within Southern California as well as some national library position openings.
and program fees as well as grants
from vendors kept our finances stable.
We were able to provide a SANDALL member a grant for the
the 2015 AALL annual meeting.
At our Annual Business Meeting in June, we gave a special thanks for their service to very dedicated members: Barbara Glennan, Melissa Fung, Robert Wickman, and Michele Jones. This year we gave a newsletter article of the year to Betsy Chessler for her March 2015 submission about social media.
SANDALL will continue work we began in 2015 to investigate archiving print and digital policies and processes.
Our annual election in May produced a new group of officers, listed below.
SANDALL Officers 2015-2016: Michele Knapp, President; Michele Lucero Villagran, Vice President/President-Elect; Ian Kipnes, Secretary; Derek Antler, Treasurer; Anna Russell, Past President
