Diego Area Law Libraries
Annual Report 2008/2009
SANDALL's Tenth Anniversary year was filled with celebration and reflection: celebration of what we have accomplished, and reflection on the people who made it all possible.
There were many innovations to kick off our next decade:
The creation of the June F. Mac Leod Service Award for outstanding service to the chapter was presented to San Diego's first law librarian organizer, June F. Mac Leod herself. June was instrumental in creating the area's first group of law librarians to share resources, ideas, and comraderie. She served as president of the organization twice before it formally became an AALL chapter; was newsletter editor for many years; and served as the first Technology Committee chair.
A new position, SANDALL Historian , will perform an outreach function, finding and maintaining contact with former SANDALL members, and assisting with gathering SANDALL information, as well as having the formal authority for documenting our programs and events using digital media. Leigh Inman, past Treasurer, has taken on this important role.
An "Article of the Year" award was presented to recognize the efforts of our contributors. John Adkins won for his article "Paint me a Picture: White, Green, Gray & All the Rest - Public and Private Papers and What They Do."
A new standing committee, the SANDALL Social Responsibilities Committee , was created to provide volunteer and charitable opportunities for the membership. Projects included a holiday book drive to benefit local disadvantaged youth; team walk to benefit the Children's Heart Institute; and more than seventy-seven pounds of food donated to the San Diego Food Bank.
We also instituted the SANDALL STAR Award for s ustained support and service to the Chapter by a vendor. The award went to Suzanne Smith of CEB.
For the first time we honored newly graduated library school degree candidates. Gina Catalano, Ian Kipnes, and Amanda Quist received awards and commendations.
ooking forward, this will be the first year for SANDALL to have a presence in the Exhibit Hall at the AALL Annual Meeting. In keeping with the 10 th Year Anniversary theme, we're going to have a "10-year old Birthday Party" and hope everyone stops by to join in.
